Keeping You Up On the News!
|
Douglas Community Club Members:
Looking out the window does not exactly make you think of golf does it? I know you are all ready and anxious for spring to come and it always seems like eternity during this time of year, BUT it is not very far away in reality. I hope everyone is looking ahead for 2008 to be a fulfilling and successful year. I know this board is ready for the New Year and the new opportunities that come with it.
We have contracted Justin Andreen as the concessionaire for the restaurant. I am anxious for all of you to meet Justin and witness his energy and enthusiasm. Justin is the son of Carl and Mary Ellen Andreen whom many of you know as the owner's of the Road Runner service. Justin was born and raised in Douglas but moved with his parents to Phoenix when he was eight years old.

I know that you will experience a lounge and restaurant with a new vibrancy and a new vision that has not been displayed in recent years. The Board is excited to welcome Justin back to Douglas as an integral part of our Community club.
The Board has also hired Danny Renz as the new Superintendent. He comes to us from Hot Springs, SD, where he worked as an assistant on the great golf course. Curtis and John Carey speak highly of his concepts, vision for the course and his proven work ethics. He is moving a mobile home onto the pad next to the maintenance buildings next to the 10th green and is already on the payroll getting reels ready for grass.
I personally want to thank all of the board for their hard work this winter, particularly Tom Bolinger for the hours and hours he spent along with his family and his parents, Carol and Gary, for cleaning the Clubhouse. Thanks from all of us to the Bolingers for the unbelievable commitment they have to the well being of the Clubhouse.
Curtis Starkey, number one golf pro in Wyoming, continues to make our community golf club one of the finest in the area. He is as good as it gets and I hope you all let him know how much you appreciate his professionalism and hospitality. He certainly is an asset to DCC and working with him is an honor.
Please renew you 2008 membership as soon as possible. The club is to open membership to everyone in March and April.
Thanks to all of you that support the Club,
Gene R. Pexton, Chairman

Tip From The Pro |
 |
Dear members.
Is anyone else ready to get out to the golf course as soon as possible? I think the winters get longer every year. Welcome back to everyone and I'm looking forward to another great season. Sharon, Rees, Cassidy, Cale and I continue to enjoy Douglas and the people we've met.
Please take a look at this year's Schedule of Events. We've added a few new events here and there, but for the most part all the big ones are still in place. For those who are not familiar with my tournament policy, it is simple and fair. Whatever you pay for an "Entry Fee", that will be paid back 100% in credit, unless otherwise stated as a fundraiser or charity event. Most of my events are also paid gross and net, so it is equally fair to everyone. I'd like to give a chance for everyone to compete and try our tournaments. I also like to run optional pots (ie, deuce, skins, etc.) giving everyone a chance to make a little cash. |
Pay outs are always posted: you'll always know where the money is going. We are excited to host again the PGA McGladrey 3 Person Team Qualifier. This event replaces the former Buick Scramble in which DCC sent a team to Nationals a few years. ago. Our qualifying team last year finished third in Colorado just missing the Nation Tournament.
Thursday Men's Night League will have a "Cocktail Hour" at the club, Thursday, March 27th at 6 PM to go over dates for the season and sign up your teams. Everyone who has ever participated or would like to participate we'd like to attend. If you or one of the your team member cannot attend, please give me a call so we're sure to get you in. Men's League starts Thursday, April 17th.
Once again I will be setting up a golf trip to Las Vegas during the month of November. If you think you might have an interest in this trip, stop in and let me know. The last three years have been a blast, and I'm already looking forward to taking a fun group.
Workday is Saturday, March 29th. We need volunteers to arrive at 8 AM that morning. There is much to get done and I'd liked to personally see a large number of members out to give Danny a helping hand. Official opening is Sunday, March 30th, or if the weather cooperates possibly a few days earlier.
For the second year I will continue the Scholarship Auction for Scholarships for Member Children, Grandchildren, or Junior Members who've been active in our Club. We will have a silent auction for two weeks at the Clubhouse. We need your items for the auction. Craft, prints, clubs, pictures, anything that might interest someone else is needed. I will have more details as the season gets started. If you have any ideas or comments on this please let me know. I really need your help with this. I think this is a great cause. Last year we raised over $1200 and our recipients will be announced at a later date.
I'm predicting a great year to Douglas. My door is always open stop in and say hello to my staff. I look forward to meeting and serving everyone. Thank you for joining and using your facility.
PGA Professional Curtis 'Star-Key's' to Good Golf
At the beginning of every season, it is very important to focus on fundamentals of the game. A great place to start is on the putting green. Here are a few "Keys" to think about:
- Focus on making one fluid movement; don't think "hit".
- See the ball going in before you putt. Don't try to force it in.
- Trust your stroke; don't guide the ball
- Keep your arms, shoulders and hands moving together.

Greens Clippings - Spring 2008 |
The first few months of the golf season have been very eventful and exciting. I have enjoyed my time here in Douglas so far and I think that this course has a lot of potential.
Maintenance on the course has been a little challenging but we are starting to get it back into the shape that it once was. The feedback from not only our members but also people from Casper and the surrounding areas have been very positive. My crew has been doing a wonderful job and we hope to continue to progress.
We encourage anyone and everyone to come check out our much-improved golf course and clubhouse. Thank you for you support.

Club News! |

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your new concessionaire at the Douglas Community Club. I'm Looking forward to making improvements in The Club and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. I've heard it has been a rough winter, but hopefully when the summer weather finally arrives, we can build our club into something we can all be proud of.
My name is Justin Andreen and I have been in the business for three years. I'm ready to take on the challenge of creating a fun environment for everyone to enjoy. I want to let everyone know first and foremost, consistency will be my number one priority. Staring March 1st, we will open at 10:30 am and we will keep the kitchen open until 9:00 pm everyday of the week. |
The bar will close at 10:00 pm Sunday - Wednesday. Thursday - Saturday are nights that we will remain open until 1:00 am. If we do happen to have a crowd that would like to stay past 1:00, I will be more than happy to stay open until 2:00. So my hours will be:
Sunday - Thursday 10:30 am - 10:00 pm (Kitchen closing at 9:00 pm)
Thursday - Saturday 10:30 am - 1:00 am (Kitchen closing at 9:00 pm)
We will take advantage of all the opportunities to host any type of party. Whether it is a Christmas party, graduation party, or a quarterly part for your company, we are more than happy to make all accommodations to make any occasion a special one. We also plan on implementing a number of different specials. There will be a couple of nice happy hour specials, in addition to weekly specials stemming from Martini Mondays to Friday Fish Fry. We are going to have Wednesday Wine Night and every Saturday will be Prime Rib Night.
Our goals is to create a family friendly environment. We will have a children's menu with five to six selections and a front room with a chest full of toys to keep the kids occupied. If any of you have any toys or kids dvd's to donate, they would be much appreciated.
As for the regular menu, a nice array of meals will be available. We will run that menu though the summer with minor adjustments as we go. I do want everyone to know I will make sure that everything on our menu will be available at all times. I will work hard to make sure that all of your needs are met and the best place to start is making sure we are fully stocked at all times.
Again, I am looking forward to this opportunity and I think I can put together a fun group of people that will make your experience at The Club an exciting experience.
Thanks for letting me take care of all your needs!
Sincerely,
Justin Andreen |
